Dubai Government Excellence Programme Honours ‘Innovative Contributions’

Dubai: 14 May, 2007 - His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, honoured today a number of government employees for their innovative contributions.

The awards were part of the Dubai Government Excellence Programme (DGEP) 2006/2007 which support the Dubai government's strategy to promote creativity and innovation within the public sector. They also reflect the government’s drive to improve overall performance and enhance competence of the government sector.

Those honoured are:

Thabet Mubarak Al Nahdi - Head of Mechanical Workshop Division: He has introduced 15 innovations in manufacturing vehicles and has created a device for cleaning petrol systems. Al Nahdi has been awarded with professional certificates from international organisations.

Ahmad Abdulla Al Tunaiji - Director of Media & Advertising, Tourism & Commerce Marketing Dept: His initiatives helped in reducing the department's overall expenditure. His contributions include an ad campaign for the ATM, London Taxi and Dubai Maps.

Mohamad Al Bastaki - Senior Maintenance Engineer, RTA: He has presented many creative designs for marine transportation booths, reflecting the heritage of Dubai to attract tourists and visitors.

Mohamad Abdelrahman Abdulla - Head of the hazardous materials unit, Dubai Civil Defence Department: Offered a proposal to design and manufacture anti hazardous materials vehicles with 50 per cent lower cost and better technical features, when compared with imported vehicles.

Ali Al-Ali - Air traffic controller, Dubai Civil Aviation Department: He is the first UAE national to be certified as an air traffic control instructor who can test other air traffic controllers in the field. Being alert, he managed to avert a crisis that could have resulted from a wrong take-off.

Yousef Abdulla Al Hashimi - Manager of Al Twar Centre, Economic Development Department: Offered several ideas that contributed to developing his department's services. He empowers his team and encourages them to follow innovative approaches.

Abdulla Abedelqader Al Muiany - Head of Gemstone Central Laboratory Division, Dubai Municipality: He has developed new techniques in testing gemstones. These techniques have received positive feedback in all international conferences.

Moussa Sultan Al Halyan - Publications Supervisor, Land Department: An artist and employee, Al Halyan represents his skills in painting the Rulers of the UAE. He was involved in designing the publications of Land Department and organised an art fair which raised more than AED 600,000 for the Dubai Club for Special Sports.

Hourya Bai - language disorders therapist, Health and Medical Services Department: She has five books to her credit which are considered the only Arabic-language references on the topic of treating language and voice disorders.

Ali Ahmad Al Obaidli - Sites Engineer, Dubai Airport Free Zone Authority: A recently recruited engineer, he has made several creative contributions to effective resources management. His solutions have helped to save 15 per cent of the costs in various construction projects.

Sheikha Al Muroushed – Executive, Dubai Water and Electricity Authority. She initiated a database in Arabic to fulfil the department's requirements and facilitate procedures.
